Silk Moon over Water

I used dupioni silk because of the horizontal weave of the fabric, but it didn't show up much. The hills were done with black silk gauze, and they look nice. However I don't think the reflection looks that good.

Closeup of the hills.

I may leave the sky alone. I'll have to ask my art teacher if the design has too many competing focal points. If I want to send this piece in for this year's EGA challenge (theme is layering) I want to add a layer to the moon as well. It's a good thing that EGA challenge is not pass/fail; I do it for the expert critique that helps me improve.

  1. I love the layering in the sky. But you're right, the moon could use some effect.

  2. Actually the sky is just painted. I have figured out how to do the moon (I think), as compared to my test piece. Also that little yellow spot in the far horizon is deliberate - a hint of maybe another fishing boat far away. My art teacher says this gives the viewer something to think about.

    1. Forgot to clarify - layering is in the embroidery sense - layer fabrics on top of each other.

    2. Thanks, I thought that's what it meant. But I also thought the sky was embroidered!

    4. Based on your feedback (thanks!) I layered the sky with painted silk gauze. Great suggestion!
